Born and raised in West Auckland, Max has established himself as a young artist emerging in the local scene as drummer and composer alike. Having been a regular sideman and student of the pianist Jonathan Crayford since age eighteen, he has had the chance to perform alongside some of the country’s best improvisers.
While not his first time as bandleader, House of Green Branches is a new project geared toward Max’s folk-inspired compositions and arrangements. Dynamic improvised music that reflects a distinct sense of place.
“Max Crook is an outstanding drummer, bandleader and composer. His music is rich in warmth, humour and integrity and is a joy to experience.” – Roger Manins
