Hikurangi Schaverien Kaa presents The Unknot ft. Bub(z) and da Ouncle$

After literal decades of sidemanship as a drummer in the worlds of modern improvised music and popular song, Te Whanganui-a-Tara’s (Wellington, Aotearoa / NZ) Hikurangi Schaverien-Kaa presents a combined suite of new work with his quintet ‘The Unknot’ and a collaborative new music / Tāonga Pūoro ensemble ‘Bub(z) and da Ouncle$’. This engagement signifies the choice to take a little agency in his craft.

The Te Whanganui-a-Tara edition of The Unknot features the talents of local legends and longtime collaborators of Hikurangi’s, including Phoebe Johnson (bass), Hector McLaughlin (piano), Tyaan Singh (alto sax), and Callum Allardice (guitar).

Having first presented The Unknot at the Monday Night Confessions concert series at Church Street Studios, and recorded the work at Rancom Street Studios, both in in Eora/Gadigal (Sydney), Hikurangi is now debuting this companion work with Bub(z) and da Ouncle$ at the Wellington Jazz Cooperative. Bub(z) and da Ouncle$ features Ruby Solly(cello, voice, tāonga pūoro), Riki Pirihi (modular synth) and Al Fraser (tāonga pūoro)
