Under the leadership of critically acclaimed composer and drummer John Rae, this group of award-winning young artists is dedicated to showcasing the remarkable creativity and musicianship of Wellington’s next generation of jazz performers.

Jack Harris, an accomplished acoustic bass player and member of the award-winning Mel Stevenson group and is highly regarded for his skill and dedication. Approaching the end of his studies at The New Zealand School of Music—Te Kōkī, Jack is already a prominent figure in Wellington’s thriving music scene.
Theo Thompson, a nationally acclaimed guitarist, has been praised as “the best in many a generation.” Theo has sold out concerts at the Wellington Jazz Festival and leads The Mantle Septet, an innovative group that blends jazz guitar trio elements with a string quartet to explore the intersection of jazz and chamber music.
Miro Holland, an 18-year-old trumpet sensation and member of the Mel Stevenson Band, has already won multiple national awards for his incredible trumpet playing and compositions. Miro represents the forefront of New Zealand’s new wave of jazz musicians.
Ayrton Foote is one of New Zealand’s most in-demand pianists, regularly collaborating with a “who’s who” of the national jazz scene. His versatility and technical prowess have made him a key figure in contemporary jazz performances.
